Russell, not Baze, wins three at Santa Rosa

Price abounds at Santa Rosa Fair

     Bettors that like to play longshots, names, numbers or whatever probably had a huge day at the Sonoma County Fair on Thursday.      In the first race of the day, Mi Tequilla paid $61 to win, $14.60 to place and $4.60 to show. Baze wins four on Opening Day

Atomic Rain will run in Haskell

       According to the Assoicated Press, the new owners of Atomic Rain have decided to take on Preakness winning filly Rachel Alexandra and Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park next Sunday.        Atomic Rain won the Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth in his last start, and was purchased several days ago by Sheik Mohammed’s Godolphin Stable from George and Lori Hall.      The colt’s regular rider Joe Bravo … Read More »

Bejarano out of intensive care

     According to the Associated Press, jockey Rafael Bejarano is out of intensive care after being seriously injured in a spill at Del Mar three days ago.      A track physician says the jockey was moved to a private room at a hospital in nearby La Jolla on Friday.     Bejarano sustained multiple facial fractures and his mount had to be destroyed in the spill on opening day Wednesday. Bejarano injured at Del Mar

      The Daily Racing Form’s Jay Privman reports that jockey Rafael Bejarano suffered multiple facial fractures on Wednesday’s opening-day card at Del Mar when his mount, Mi Rey, broke down badly and dropped the rider in the stretch run of the third race.       Bejarano was taken to Scripps Hospital in nearby La Jolla, where X-rays revealed he had fractures of the jaw, nose, and orbital bones, according to Dr. Philip Sanderson, … Read More »
