Jackson trainer appeals six-month suspension

      According to the Associated Press, trainer Steve Asmussen has appealed a six-month suspension handed down after one of his horses tested positive for a local anesthetic last year.       The Lone Star Park board of stewards on Thursday suspended Asmussen and fined him $1,500 for Timber Trick’s positive test for a lidocaine metabolite.       Asmussen is based in Texas, which has a zero-tolerance policy on the drug, which is a Class 2 medication … Read More »

Haskell awaits Rachel Alexandra

         According to a Jess Jackson press release, Preakness-winning filly Rachel Alexandra will run against the boys again in the $1 million Haskell Invitational on Aug. 2 at New Jersey’s Monmouth Park.         Her co-owner Jess Jackson announced the decision Tuesday. Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra get it done

         Both of this year’s top females roll to impressive victories.          According to Steve Andersen of the Daily Racing Form,  Zenyatta’s five opponents tried to keep up with her in Saturday’s $287,000 Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park.
